About The Rookery

The Rookery is a residential home in Norwich supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Most of the people living here are younger adults, and we see our job as helping them get on with their own lives rather than organising those lives for them. We keep the house small and calm on purpose. Everyone has their own room to retreat to, and the shared parts of the house belong to the people who live here, not to the staff. Routines are planned around the individual, including the ones that need to stay exactly the same every day, because that predictability is often what makes everything else possible. Support is agreed with each person in a way they can understand, using signs, pictures or whatever already works for them. Some people want help to cook, to manage money or to travel independently; others need someone alongside them for most of the day. Both are fine, and neither is treated as a problem to be solved. Getting out into Norwich is part of normal life here, whether that is an activity during the week, seeing family, or a regular trip somewhere that matters to somebody. We also offer respite stays for people who need a short break or whose families do. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and you are welcome to visit and see how the house runs.
