About Link House

Link House is a residential care home in Dereham, Norfolk, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of the people who live here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for families who need a break or are planning towards a longer move. We think of this as somebody's home first and a care setting second. That shapes ordinary decisions. People choose how their room looks, when they get up, what goes on the shopping list and what happens at the weekend. Where somebody wants to cook, we cook together rather than doing it for them. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, we treat that as the point of the support rather than a nice addition to it. Predictability is something we take seriously. For a good number of the people here, knowing what is happening and who will be there makes the difference between a manageable day and a difficult one. So we plan ahead, we explain changes early, and we do not rearrange things casually. Respite guests are properly welcomed. We ask in advance how the person likes things done, because a short stay gives us no time to learn it slowly, and we would rather arrive prepared. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are glad of that, and we keep asking the people who live here what would make this a better place to be.
