About Eckling Grange

We are Eckling Grange, a residential care home in Dereham, Norfolk, supporting older people who need help with everyday living, including people living with dementia and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We think of this as somebody's home rather than as a facility, and that shapes the small decisions as much as the large ones. Everyone here keeps their own room, their own belongings and as much of their own routine as they want. Some people enjoy company and a busy part of the day, others prefer quiet, and neither choice needs explaining. Help with washing, dressing, medication and getting about is offered at the person's pace and as discreetly as possible. Where somebody has a sensory impairment we adapt how we communicate rather than expecting them to adapt to us, and where somebody is living with dementia we work from what they still hold rather than from what has gone, taking time to learn about their work, family and interests so that reassurance means something. We also provide respite stays. A short planned stay can give a family carer a genuine rest, or help someone regain confidence after illness before returning home, and we prepare for those visits carefully. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us good overall. Relatives and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come, and we would rather hear about a worry early than find out about it late. If you are considering a home in the Dereham area, please visit and see how the place feels.
