About Welcome House - Nickleby Lodge
Welcome House at Nickleby Lodge is a residential care home in Rochester supporting adults living with mental ill health. We offer permanent places and planned respite stays. We are a house where people live rather than a clinical setting, and for many of those we support that ordinariness does much of the work. After time in hospital or in unsettled housing, a stable home with a dependable routine can matter more than any programme. Our support covers meals, medication, help keeping appointments, managing a household and rebuilding confidence in everyday situations. It also means staff who know a person well enough to tell the difference between a difficult day and a genuine deterioration, and who respond proportionately to each. Recovery here is practical rather than abstract, and a setback is not treated as a failure. We want to be straightforward about our last inspection. The Care Quality Commission rated us as requires improvement. We are working through what was identified rather than explaining it away, with closer oversight of care records and medication, more structured supervision and training for staff, and clearer checks that what we plan is what actually happens each day. We would rather tell you this plainly than have you find it elsewhere. Residents, families and referrers are welcome to visit, ask us difficult questions and see the home as it really is.
