About Downers Court
Downers Court is a residential care home in Rochester supporting adults with a range of needs, including people with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and those with sight or hearing loss. We work from the person outwards rather than from the diagnosis in. That means taking time at the start to learn how somebody likes their day to run, what they can manage themselves, where help is genuinely wanted and what tends to make things go wrong. The plan that comes out of that is agreed with the person and reviewed properly as things change. Support ranges from full help with personal care and moving safely through to prompting and encouragement while somebody does things for themselves. Communication gets close attention, because choices are only real if they are understood, and behaviour usually makes sense once you know what it is telling you. People here are supported to have a life outside the building, keeping up interests and activities, getting out into Rochester and the wider area, and staying in touch with family and friends. Respite stays can be arranged where appropriate. If you are looking for a placement or a short stay, please contact us and come and see the home.
