About Sinon House Therapeutic Unit
Sinon House is a residential care home in Rochester, Medway, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, people managing mental health conditions and people living with an eating disorder, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. Our work is therapeutic as well as practical, and the two cannot really be separated. Many of the people who come to us have had unsettled periods and a number of moves, so the first thing we try to offer is somewhere calm where nothing changes without warning and where people are treated as adults making their own decisions. People have their own rooms and their own routines, and they have a real say in how their days go. Support is agreed with each person rather than imposed, and we are careful about the line between helping somebody and taking over. We work closely with mental health, eating disorder and social work colleagues, because support everybody has agreed on is the support that lasts. We should be straightforward about where we stand. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We accepted the findings, we have a plan of work in place and we are progressing it with colleagues in health and the local authority. If you are considering a place here, please come and visit and ask us exactly what the concerns were and what we have changed.
