About Millstream House
Millstream House is a residential care home in Rochester, Medway. We support adults with a learning disability, adults on the autistic spectrum, people with physical disabilities and younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. Our starting point is that this is where people live. It follows from that that people decide how their own days go. Some of the people here work or volunteer, some are studying, some are building the skills to live more independently, and some want a settled, quiet home life. All of those are perfectly good answers, and our job is to support whichever one somebody has chosen. Practical support might mean help with personal care, cooking, managing money, using transport, keeping in touch with family or getting to appointments. We aim to support people to do things rather than to do things for them, which sometimes takes longer but is nearly always worth it. Communication is central. People tell us what they want in different ways, and we invest time in understanding each person's way of doing that so decisions are genuinely theirs. Respite stays give families a break while offering the person staying with us a settled and predictable place to be. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to visit, we would be glad to show you around.
