About Sandhurst Court
We are Sandhurst Court, a residential care home in Dewsbury, in the borough of Kirklees. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people with a physical disability, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Supporting younger adults is a different job from supporting people in later life, and we think it is worth saying so. The people who live here are building lives rather than winding them down. They have things they want to do, people they want to see and areas where they need a hand, and support that treats them as passive recipients gets in the way of all of it. So we work from what the person is trying to achieve. Choice runs through the day as far as it possibly can, and where a decision needs support we give the support rather than making the decision. For those with a physical disability, the practical details matter most: time enough that nothing is rushed, equipment set up properly, and asking the person how they prefer things done. Families and advocates are involved to the extent the person wishes. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
