About Somerville House
Somerville House provides residential care in Hull for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with mental health needs. We also take planned respite stays. Our aim is that people carry on being themselves here, with the help they need arranged quietly around them. Residents choose when to get up, what to wear, where to sit and who to spend time with, and our staff know those preferences well enough not to have to ask twice. Practically we help with personal care, medicines, meals and all the business of running the place. For residents living with dementia we keep the day familiar and the pace gentle, because rushing somebody creates distress that takes far longer to settle than the time it saves. We work with what a person can still do rather than treating the diagnosis as the whole story. For residents with mental health needs, consistency and a lack of fuss count for a great deal, along with staff who notice early when somebody is less well than they were. Respite stays give family carers a genuine break and let people see what we are like before making a longer decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives what they think, and we act on the answers.
