About Bethia Cottage
Bethia Cottage is a small residential care home in Hull supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Most of the people who live here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. Being small has real advantages. Staff know everybody properly rather than in passing, which means a change in somebody is noticed quickly and a preference does not have to be explained twice. We run the house on the understanding that it belongs to the people who live in it. The everyday decisions sit with them. What goes on the shopping list. How a bedroom looks. Whether Saturday means going out or staying in. When a great deal of somebody's life may already have been arranged by other people, these decisions matter enormously. Support is planned individually and changes as people do. Some want to build skills and take on more for themselves, and our job is to step back at the right pace and stay near enough to help if something does not go to plan. Others want a settled and predictable life with reliable support around it. For autistic people, the environment is part of the care. Noise, lighting and short notice can shape a whole week. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visitors are welcome.
