About Loran House
Loran House is a residential care home in Hull. We look after older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia or mental ill health, and people with physical disabilities or sight and hearing loss. Our starting point is always the person rather than the building. We ask how somebody has always run their day, what they want help with and what they would much rather do themselves, and we write it down so it does not depend on who happens to be on shift. Meals are cooked here, visitors are welcome, and the house is meant to feel lived in rather than managed. For people living with dementia we keep things familiar and unrushed, and we use what we learn about a person's life to hold a conversation and to settle them when they are distressed. Where mental ill health or a sensory impairment is involved, we adjust how we communicate and keep in step with the health teams supporting someone. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to hide that. We have taken what was found seriously, we are working through it, and we will talk anyone through what has changed. Respite stays are available. If you are considering us for a relative, please come and see the house and ask us whatever you need to ask.
