About Ivy House

Ivy House is a residential care home in Hull supporting younger adults with a learning disability, adults who are autistic, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite stays. We want to be open about our regulatory position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have accepted the findings rather than argued with them, we are working through an action plan, and we have made changes to training, supervision and the way we record and review the support we give. Anyone thinking about a placement here should ask us about it directly. The daily work of the house continues. Support is planned person by person rather than around a house routine, and the week belongs to the person: a course, a job, regular time with family, a favourite trip out, or a settled routine that nobody disturbs. Our team learns how each person communicates, including those who do not use speech, and treats distress as something with a cause rather than as behaviour to be contained. For residents with a sensory impairment we pay attention to lighting, sound and how we approach somebody. If you are considering Ivy House, please come and look round, ask the difficult questions and judge us on what you find.
