About Avondale House

Avondale House is a residential care home in Westgate on Sea, Kent. We support older people and younger adults, autistic adults and people with a learning disability, and adults managing mental ill health. We also offer respite stays for people who need a place for a shorter period. We run a home rather than an institution. People have their own rooms and their own routines, and they take part in the ordinary business of the house as much as they want to. Some of those living here want a full week with plenty going on, others want quiet and their own company, and both are perfectly reasonable ways to live. Supporting this mix of people takes attention to individuals rather than categories. We learn what unsettles somebody and what steadies them, we keep staff and routines as consistent as we can, and we communicate in whatever way works for the person. Where somebody's mental health is fragile we watch for early signs and involve their GP and the community team promptly rather than waiting for a crisis. We work closely with families, social workers and health colleagues, and we welcome being told when we have got something wrong. We have not yet had a full inspection under our current registration, so please come and look closely and ask us whatever you want. Enquiries from families and referrers in Kent are welcome.
