Here at Sheringham House, we are a residential care home based in Gravesend, Kent, and we support people with a real mix of needs and backgrounds. Our work focuses on residential care for younger adults, including people living with learning disabilities, autism, and physical disabilities. We also offer respite care, which gives people and their families some breathing space when it is needed most. We know that moving into a care home, or even staying for a short while, is a significant step. Our aim is to make sure that everyone who comes through our doors feels genuinely at home, with their routines, preferences, and individuality respected. We take time to get to know each person properly, because good care really does start with listening. We want to be straightforward with you. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a "requires improvement" rating, and we are not shying away from that. We have taken the findings seriously and are working through the areas identified with clear focus and honesty. Improvement is not just a word for us at this point, it is something we are actively working through day by day, and we welcome scrutiny as part of that process. Safe
CQC rated this area Requires improvement. The report says staff had training on how to recognise and report abuse and knew how to apply it. The environment was safe, well equipped, well-furnished and well maintained. Inspectors looked at infection prevention and control under this question.
Effective
CQC rated this area Requires improvement. People were not always supported to have maximum choice and control during mealtimes. Some people could take other people's food and drink, and this had not been consistently well managed. Some people were identified as overweight and there was no clear plan to support them to maintain a healthy weight.
Caring
People received kind and compassionate care. Staff protected and respected people's privacy and dignity. Staff understood people's individual needs and responded to them.
Responsive
People's care and support plans reflected their range of needs. Staff supported people to achieve their aspirations and goals, and these were regularly reviewed. People and those important to them were involved in planning their care.
Well-led
CQC rated this area Requires improvement. The provider remained in breach of some regulations, and CQC found breaches relating to person centred care and good governance. CQC asked the provider for an action plan. Relatives said communication with them had improved since the last inspection.
