About Milestone House
Milestone House is a residential home in Deal, Kent, supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We offer permanent places and also respite stays for people who need somewhere for a short while. The house belongs to the people who live in it. That shapes almost everything we do. Residents decide how their own rooms look, have a real say in meals and in what happens week to week, and are supported to keep hold of the parts of life they manage well. Where somebody needs a lot of help, we give it thoroughly and without fuss. Where somebody needs only a prompt, that is all we give. Communication is central to our work. Not everyone here uses speech, and we take the time to learn each person's own way of letting us know what they want, what they are enjoying and what they are unhappy about. Support plans are built from that, not from assumptions, and we keep testing whether we have understood correctly. Days here have shape to them: activities in and around Deal, seeing family and friends, and the ordinary domestic business of cooking, shopping and keeping house, which people take part in as much as they wish. Our staff are trained for the needs of the people they support and receive proper supervision. Families, social workers and health colleagues are welcome to visit and to ask us anything.
