Here at Family Investment (Four), we are proud to be a care home based in Canterbury, Kent, supporting people who have a learning disability or autism, as well as those who need residential or respite care. Our most recent CQC inspection rated us as Outstanding, and that recognition genuinely means a great deal to our whole team. We know that choosing the right care home is one of the most important decisions a family will ever make. Whether someone is moving in with us permanently or coming for a short respite stay, we want every person who walks through our door to feel at home as quickly as possible. Supporting people with a learning disability or autism is something we take seriously and think about carefully. We understand that communication, routine and environment can make an enormous difference to someone's wellbeing, and we work hard to get those things right for each individual. No two people are the same, and we do not treat them as though they are. Respite care is equally important to us. We recognise that families and carers sometimes need a break, and we want people to feel genuinely comfortable and cared for during their time with us, not simply looked after. Canterbury is a wonderful place to be based, and we make the most of what the local area has to offer for the people we support. Safe
Inspectors found the home had safeguarding and whistleblowing policies, and staff understood them. Recruitment checks were done before staff started work, and there were enough staff to meet people's needs. Medicines were managed safely, risks to people had been assessed, and there were procedures to reduce the risk of infection.
Effective
Inspectors found people's needs were assessed before they started to use the service. Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to support people, and they were supported through induction, training and regular supervision. People were helped to keep a healthy balanced diet and could see health care professionals when they needed to. Staff supported people in the least restrictive way possible.
Caring
Inspectors found the home continued to be Outstanding in the way it cared for people. Staff were highly motivated and gave care and support that was exceptionally compassionate and kind. There was a visible person-centred culture. Staff understood people's needs and had positive relationships with people and their family members. They were very supportive and sensitive when helping people follow their diverse wishes and preferences.
Responsive
Inspectors found the home was Outstanding at responding to people's needs. It was exceptional in the way it supported people to learn new skills and keep their independence. Activities were planned to meet people's needs and preferences, and people were supported to follow their interests. A social care professional said they liked the way people's independence was promoted in positive ways. The home had a complaints procedure and procedures for end of life care if needed.
Well-led
Inspectors found the registered manager had worked in partnership with health and social care providers to plan and deliver an effective service. The provider took people's and relatives' views into account through satisfaction surveys. Staff said they enjoyed working at the home and received good support from the registered manager.
