About Downside House
Here at Downside House, we provide residential care for older people in the heart of Ventnor, on the beautiful Isle of Wight. Our home has a warm, settled atmosphere, and we work hard to make sure everyone who comes through our doors feels genuinely at home, whether they are joining us for a short respite stay or moving in with us permanently. We support people living with dementia as well as those who need general residential care as they get older. We take time to get to know each person properly, understanding their routines, their preferences, and the things that matter most to them. Good care, in our view, starts with good listening. Ventnor is a lovely part of the island, and we make the most of our surroundings wherever we can. The local community is something we value greatly, and we encourage connections between residents and the wider world around them, because staying part of life matters at every age. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, and we are proud of that. It reflects the effort our team puts in every single day, not just with the practical side of care but with the kindness and attention that makes a real difference to how people feel. Respite care is something we offer with the same level of thought and care as our permanent placements. We understand that families sometimes need support at short notice, and we do our best to make any transition as smooth and comfortable as possible.
