About The Meadows Short Break Centre
We are a short break centre in Welwyn Garden City, providing residential support for adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Short breaks are what we do, and we think they deserve to be done properly rather than treated as a stopgap. A stay here should give the person coming to us something worth having, which means company, activities they have chosen, a change of surroundings and support from people who understand what they need. It should also give family carers a real rest, and that only works if they can hand over without worrying. We spend time getting to know someone before their first stay. How they communicate, what settles them, what unsettles them, how they like their day to run, what help they want with personal care and medicines and what they would much rather do themselves. All of that is recorded clearly so support does not vary depending on who is on shift, and so a returning visitor finds things much as they left them. Familiarity matters here more than almost anywhere. People come back to us over months and years, and we work hard to keep the same team around them so each stay feels like returning somewhere known. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and social workers are welcome to visit, meet the team and ask us anything before arranging a stay.
