About Aston House

Aston House is a residential care home in Hereford, supporting older people and younger adults. We work with people who have a learning disability, people who are autistic and people living with mental ill health, and we offer short stays as well as permanent places. Because the people who live here have such different lives, we do not run the house to one pattern. Support is worked out individually, and the week belongs to the person. For some that means a job, a course or volunteering. For others it means regular time with family, a favourite trip out, or a settled routine that nobody interferes with. Our team takes the time to learn how each person communicates. Not everybody uses speech, so we pay attention to gesture, expression and behaviour, and we are willing to be corrected when we have read something wrongly. Where somebody becomes upset, we work on the basis that there is a reason for it and that finding the reason is part of our job. People choose their own food, keep their own space and habits, and are supported to take on as much for themselves as they want to. Help with personal care and medication is given discreetly, in the way each person prefers.
