About St Paul's Residential Home
St Paul's is a residential care home in Gloucester. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families needing a planned break. Most of what makes a care home good happens quietly and every day. Food people actually want. Being helped to the bathroom without waiting. Laundry that comes back. Knowing the name of whoever is on this evening. Somebody noticing that you have been quieter than usual. That is where we try to keep our attention. For residents living with dementia we protect the routine and keep the surroundings familiar, and we ask families for the working life, the places and the names, because those are what still connect when much else has slipped. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather write that here than have a family discover it elsewhere and wonder why we did not mention it. We accept what was identified and we are working through it, and we are not going to claim in a paragraph that it is all behind us. What we would ask is that anybody considering us comes without an appointment, sees the place on an ordinary afternoon, speaks to residents and relatives out of our hearing, and asks us directly what has changed and what has not.
