About Glenroyd House
Glenroyd House is a residential care home in Basildon, Essex, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. This is a home rather than a placement, and the people who live here set the shape of the week. Rooms are personal and arranged as each person chooses. Cooking, the weekly shop and looking after the house are ordinary shared jobs rather than activities we invent to fill a timetable. Some of the people here have work, college or volunteering they want to keep up, others have firm favourites for days out, and some prefer quieter weeks with familiar company. Communication is where good support begins. Where someone uses speech, signs, symbols, technology or behaviour to tell us what they need, we learn their way of doing it and record it clearly so that every colleague understands rather than guesses. Where change is difficult we prepare properly and give plenty of notice. Where a risk exists we think it through with the person instead of saying no by default. We work closely with families, social workers and health colleagues, and we will speak up when we think someone is not getting what they are entitled to. You are very welcome to visit before deciding anything. Please contact us and we will arrange a time.
