About The Seagulls
The Seagulls is a care home in Brighton providing residential care for older people and for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Some of our residents are living with dementia, we support younger adults, and we offer respite stays. A house with that mix of people cannot be run on one routine and we do not attempt it. What we hold in common is simple enough: nobody should have to bend themselves to fit the building. Meals, bedtimes, help with washing and dressing, going out, staying in, visitors at odd hours. All of it works better arranged around the person. Where dementia and a learning disability occur together, which is more common than people expect, care needs to be patient and consistent rather than ingenious, and the team has to know the individual well enough to spot changes early. Keeping staff for the long term is therefore the thing we work hardest at. Brighton is a good city to live in and we make sure residents are part of it rather than observers of it. Getting out, keeping friendships going and seeing family are treated as part of the support. Respite stays are prepared with visits beforehand. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Come and see the house on a normal day and talk to the people who live here.
