About Woodleigh Manor Residential Care Home
Woodleigh Manor is a residential care home in Hessle, in the East Riding of Yorkshire. We are home to older people and to some younger adults, we have considerable experience of supporting people who live with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those needing care for a shorter period. Our aim is that this feels like a house people live in rather than a place where care is administered. Residents choose their own routine, keep their own possessions about them, and have their preferences taken seriously, from what time breakfast happens to who they want in the room when personal care is given. Nobody is hurried through something they can still manage on their own. Dementia care is a substantial part of our work, and experience has taught us that the useful things are not complicated. Steady routines, familiar staff, unhurried conversation and a good knowledge of somebody's earlier life prevent far more distress than anything else. When a resident is anxious or upset, we look for the reason behind it rather than treating the behaviour as the problem. Practically we help with washing, dressing, medication, meals, mobility and continence, at whatever level each person needs, and we call on GPs, district nurses and other health professionals promptly when there is a change. Families are welcome at Woodleigh Manor at any reasonable hour and we would far rather hear a worry early. If you are looking at homes in this part of Yorkshire, please arrange to visit and see it for yourself.
