About Redstacks
Redstacks is a residential care home in Hessle. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families who need a planned break. The point is that this is somebody's home. They choose when to get up, what to wear, whether to come down, and whether today is a day for company. Dementia asks us to hold a routine steady and to know a person deeply. Families give us the history, and it is the difference between managing a condition and keeping company. Short stays need more preparation, not less. We ask the person and their family beforehand how things are usually done so that nothing has to be improvised. We work hard at keeping the same staff on the same shifts, because familiarity does more for people here than almost anything else we could arrange. We are honest about what we cannot do. If somebody's needs would be better met elsewhere we will say so, even when it would suit us to keep them. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We look hardest at the parts of the day nobody inspects.
