About Bishopsteignton House

Bishopsteignton House is a residential care home near Teignmouth in Devon. We provide a permanent home to older people, and we also offer respite stays for those who need care for a short spell or whose family carer needs a break. Most of our residents need help with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication and meals, and reassurance that somebody is nearby at night. A good number are living with dementia, and we let that shape the whole house rather than treating it as a separate wing. The day follows a recognisable pattern, familiar staff are around, people keep their own belongings and habits, and somebody who is anxious gets company and time rather than correction. We also support people with physical disabilities, where equipment, seating and access decide how much independence somebody actually has. Food is cooked on the premises and people are asked what they would like rather than told what there is. There is somewhere sociable to sit and somewhere quiet, the garden gets used when the weather allows, the sea is close enough for a trip out, and visitors do not need an appointment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please arrange to come and see us, at a mealtime if you can, and talk to whoever is on duty.
