About Malden House

Malden House is a residential care home in Sidmouth, Devon. We look after older people who can no longer manage at home alone, including a good number living with dementia, and some younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Sidmouth is a town people are attached to, and most of our residents have lived here or nearby for years, which gives conversation in the lounge plenty of common ground. Staff tend to be local and tend to stay, and that matters more to the people living here than anything else we could put on a list. We are not a nursing home and we are clear with families about where that line falls. What we do is the daily work of helping somebody wash and dress, take their medicines, eat properly, move about safely and stay connected to other people. Done well that is a skilled job. For residents with dementia we have found steadiness beats stimulation. The same faces, meals at the same times, a bedroom that looks like the person's own room, and nothing moved without a reason. We ask families for the detail no assessment captures, including what she did for a living and which songs he knows all the words to. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Call in and see us, with or without warning.
