About Susan Day Residential Home
We are Susan Day Residential Home in Ilfracombe, Devon. We provide residential care for older people, both as a permanent home and as a respite stay for those who need support for a shorter period. We are a residential home rather than a nursing one. What we do is support people with the everyday things that have become hard work: washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company of other people. Where health needs go beyond that we work with district nurses and GPs, and we are clear with families about what we can and cannot provide, because a placement that turns out to be the wrong fit helps nobody. A home of our size has an advantage worth mentioning, which is that staff genuinely know everyone who lives here. Not just the care plan but the preferences, the history, the small things that make a difference to a person's day. That knowledge is what good care is actually built on. Respite guests are properly assessed and properly welcomed, whether they are with us while a family carer takes a break or recovering after a spell in hospital. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
