About Yewdale Farm

Yewdale Farm is a residential care home near Cambridge supporting older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autism. We also offer planned respite stays. We are a home rather than an institution and we try to behave like one. People here have their own rooms, their own habits and their own opinions about how things should be done, and we would rather adjust around that than ask everybody to fit one routine. Our staff help with personal care, medicines, meals, money and the ordinary running of the house, and they hold back where somebody can manage alone, because independence is easily worn away by well meant helpfulness. For adults with learning disabilities and autism, the specifics are what count. How a person communicates, what makes a place tolerable, how much notice they need before something changes, and which parts of the day they would rather handle themselves are all things we learn from them. When change cannot be avoided, we prepare for it properly. Life here is meant to extend beyond the front door too. We support people to keep up with family and friends and to get to the groups, activities, work or college that matter to them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering a place here, please come and see us and spend time with the people who already live here.
