About Yew Tree Cottage
Yew Tree Cottage is a residential home near Cambridge supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including both older and younger adults. We offer permanent places and respite stays. This is a house where a small number of people live, and being small is a large part of why it works. Everybody here is known properly, as a person with their own habits, opinions and plans, rather than looked after as a group working through a shared timetable. Support is shaped around each individual: what they want their day to contain, the help they need to make it happen, and the things they would far rather do for themselves without us stepping in. Communication gets close attention from us. A great deal of what goes wrong in support for people with a learning disability and for autistic people comes down to somebody not being understood, or not being allowed the time to make themselves understood. We learn how each person communicates and we work at their pace rather than ours, and we never treat quietness as evidence that everything is fine. Where people want to get out, see family, go to work or college, or keep up something regular, our job is to make it possible. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and see how the house runs.
