About Sherbourne Lodge Care Services

Sherbourne Lodge is a residential care home in Cambridge. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and people whose sight or hearing is impaired. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We try to run this as a household rather than an institution. People arrange their own rooms, keep their own routines and decide how much of the day they want to spend in company. Visitors are welcome without appointment, and nobody is made to join in with anything. Our staff help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and moving about, and they do it in a way that keeps somebody's privacy intact. Where sight or hearing has changed we pay attention to the practical adjustments that make daily life workable. For people living with dementia we keep the day familiar and unhurried and we learn about a person's history from their family, because that is usually what helps us understand what they need. Supporting people of different ages together takes thought, and we plan individually rather than running everybody to one pattern. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We prefer to say that plainly rather than leave it unmentioned. The most useful thing you can do is come and see the place, meet our staff, talk to families of people living here and form your own view.
