About Amberwood Lodge
Amberwood Lodge is a residential care home in Poole, supporting adults and younger adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic. We are a small home, and that is deliberate, because the kind of support we offer depends on knowing each person thoroughly. Everyone who lives here has a support plan written with them and in a form they can genuinely use. We take time to understand how each person communicates, including through routine, mood and behaviour, and we adapt what we do rather than expecting people to fit around us. Predictable days, careful attention to sensory needs and staff who stay the same are usually what make the difference between a settled week and a difficult one. We want the house to feel like a home rather than a placement. People take part in the shopping and cooking, share the chores, decide what happens at the weekend, keep up with family and friends, and get out into Poole and along the coast. Where someone wants to learn to do more for themselves, we support the practice rather than doing the task for them. We also offer respite stays, which give families a planned break and let the person enjoy a place they already know. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
