Nursing Homes in Grantham 5 nursing homes · 3 rated Good by CQC
- 3 Good
- 2 Requires improvement
Registered nursing care is what separates the homes gathered here from a residential place, and nursing homes in the Grantham area are the ones with a qualified nurse on duty when a relative needs that level of support. Three postcode districts are covered rather than the town centre alone, NG thirty one, NG thirty two and NG thirty three, so the shortlist stays tied to the address and to how far family can realistically travel. Five homes registered for nursing care fall within those districts. Three hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission and two are rated Requires Improvement, a mix that makes the detail of each inspection report worth reading rather than skimming. Lincolnshire County Council is the authority responsible for the care needs assessment and for deciding what funded support applies towards fees. Follow the links below into each inspection report, then use what you learn there to shape the questions you ask on a visit.

We at Harrowby Lodge Nursing Home are proud to offer compassionate nursing care in the welcoming market town of Grantham, Lincolnshire. Set within a residential part of the town, our home provides a calm and homely environment where residents can feel truly settled, whilst benefiting from the reassurance of round the clock professional support. Our setting in Grantham places us within easy reach of the wider Lincolnshire community, allowing families to visit with ease and residents to remain connected to the area many have called home for years. The surroundings offer a peaceful backdrop to daily life, and we work hard to ensure that the atmosphere inside our home reflects that same sense of warmth, familiarity, and comfort. From communal lounges where friendships are formed to quieter spaces for reflection, every corner of Harrowby Lodge is designed with the wellbeing of our residents in mind. The care we provide is broad and thoughtfully tailored to meet a range of needs. As a nursing home, we support older people who require ongoing clinical care, delivered with dignity and discretion by our nursing team. We also specialise in dementia care, offering a patient and understanding approach that helps residents living with memory loss to feel safe, valued, and understood. Our experience extends to supporting adults with physical disabilities and younger adults whose needs may not always be met in more traditional settings, ensuring that everyone in our care feels genuinely seen as an individual. For families navigating a sudden change in circumstances, we also offer respite care. This can be a lifeline for those who usually care for a loved one at home, providing a trusted place for short stays whether following a hospital discharge, during a family holiday, or simply to give a carer time to rest. In practice, this means that whatever the reason for seeking care, our team is equipped to welcome new residents with warmth and to adapt our approach to suit their preferences, routines, and personal histories. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission awarded Harrowby Lodge Nursing Home an overall rating of Good. We were rated Good across the domains of Safe, Effective, Caring, and Responsive, which reflects the everyday commitment of our team to delivering care that residents and their loved ones can rely on. The Well led domain was rated as Requires Improvement, and we take that feedback seriously, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen our leadership and continue improving the experience we offer. Transparency matters to us, and we believe families deserve a full picture when making such an important decision. Choosing a nursing home for someone you love is never a small step, and we understand the weight of that decision. If you are considering care in the Grantham area, we would be delighted to speak with you, answer your questions, and arrange a visit so you can experience the atmosphere of Harrowby Lodge for yourself. Whatever your circumstances, you will find a team ready to listen with kindness and to walk alongside you every step of the way.

Red Court Care Community in Grantham provides nursing care to older adults and to some younger adults, with respite stays available. We support residents living with dementia and residents with a physical disability. We should be straightforward about our current position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Requires Improvement. We would rather set that out here than leave a family to come across it elsewhere and wonder why we had not said so. We understand what was identified, we are working through it, and we will go over the findings and our response with anyone who asks. What we are working towards is the ordinary foundation of good nursing care. Residents known well enough that changes in their health are noticed early rather than late. Medication and clinical tasks carried out correctly and on time. A staff team settled enough for familiarity to be real, which is what dementia care depends on more than anything. Accurate records. Families told promptly and plainly when something changes. None of that should be an improvement plan. It is what residents are entitled to as a matter of course, and saying so publicly is part of holding ourselves to it. If you are considering a place for a relative, please come and visit, ask us the difficult questions, and form your own view of how the home is running now.

Royal Windsor is a nursing home in Grantham, Lincolnshire. We support older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing care, including many living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays. Having registered nurses as part of the team means people with complex health needs can stay with us as those needs change rather than having to move on. That continuity is worth a great deal, particularly for somebody living with dementia, for whom familiar faces and familiar surroundings are doing genuine work. The clinical side is only part of a day here and usually the smaller part. The rest is the ordinary business of living somewhere: meals people want to eat, help that arrives without a long wait, privacy when it is wanted, company when it is not, and being spoken to as somebody with a working life and a family rather than as a set of conditions. Nursing can crowd that out if nobody is watching for it, and we try to watch for it. Anybody considering us should visit unannounced, speak to residents and relatives, and ask us whatever they want.

We at Newton House are proud to offer dedicated nursing care in the welcoming market town of Grantham, Lincolnshire. As a trusted nursing home in the East Midlands, we provide a nurturing environment where residents receive skilled clinical support alongside the warmth and dignity that make a true home. Set within the familiar surroundings of Grantham, our home enjoys the benefits of its Lincolnshire setting, where residents can feel connected to the local community whilst enjoying peaceful, comfortable surroundings. The NG postcode area offers a blend of accessibility for visiting loved ones and the calm atmosphere so important to those receiving long term care. Our environment has been thoughtfully arranged to support residents with a wide range of needs, helping each person feel safe, settled, and genuinely at ease. Our care reflects the breadth of needs we are equipped to meet. We specialise in nursing care and older person care, supporting individuals whose health requires ongoing clinical attention from qualified nurses. For families navigating the complexities of dementia, our dementia care provision offers compassionate, person centred support, with routines and approaches designed to reduce anxiety and promote moments of joy. We also welcome residents living with mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and younger adults whose circumstances mean residential nursing support is the right choice for them. In practice, this means our team takes the time to understand each resident as an individual, learning their history, their preferences, and the small daily routines that bring comfort. Families can take reassurance from knowing that nursing expertise is on hand around the clock, whilst the wider team focuses on emotional wellbeing, dignity, and meaningful daily living. We believe care is most effective when it is delivered with kindness, patience, and a genuine interest in the person in front of us. Our most recent CQC inspection, carried out in June 2021, rated Newton House as Good overall, with Good ratings across all five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistent recognition reflects the standards we strive to uphold every day, from the safety of our environment and the effectiveness of clinical care, to the responsiveness of our team and the leadership that guides our home. For families, a Good rating across every domain offers meaningful reassurance that loved ones are in capable, caring hands. Choosing a nursing home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the emotions involved. If you are exploring options for a relative in Grantham or the wider Lincolnshire area, we warmly invite you to learn more about Newton House. Our door is open to your questions, and we would be honoured to support your family through this next chapter with compassion, professionalism, and genuine care.

Richard House provides residential and nursing care in Grantham. We care for older people who need help with daily living, for those who need qualified nursing, for residents living with dementia, for people living with mental health conditions, for people with a physical disability and for people whose sight or hearing is impaired. We also care for some younger adults. Offering both residential and nursing care means that when somebody's health changes we can adjust what we provide rather than asking them to move again. We want to be open about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are working through the points raised, with particular attention to record keeping, staff supervision and the consistency of care planning, and we would sooner set that out ourselves and invite your questions than have you come across it elsewhere. Relatives are part of that work because they can say whether things have genuinely changed. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Families across Lincolnshire are welcome to visit and ask us anything.

Arranging and funding a nursing home place in Grantham
Starting With the Assessment
Families often telephone homes first and discover that nobody can discuss a place in any detail without an assessment behind it. That assessment is carried out by Lincolnshire County Council, which is responsible for establishing what support is needed and for deciding what funded help follows. Where nursing care looks likely, a health assessment follows to confirm whether a registered nursing need exists. Both are free and neither commits anyone to a particular home, but the written outcomes are what the homes across the NG31, NG32 and NG33 districts will ask to see.
Fees, Contributions and Top Ups
Nursing fees sit above residential fees because of the qualified staffing involved, and each home sets its own rate, so quotes vary across the same three districts. A financial assessment applies the national capital thresholds and decides whether the council funds the placement, contributes towards it or leaves fees with the family. Where a nursing need is confirmed, a health contribution towards that element is paid directly to the home. Should a family prefer a home charging above what the council will meet, a third party top up is usually required, and it is far better to establish that before a room is offered.
Choosing between nursing homes in Grantham
Making Sense of a Mixed Picture
Three of the five homes here are rated Good and two are rated Requires Improvement, so the published record does real work in shaping a shortlist. With the homes rated Good, go into the body of the report and look at staffing levels, medicines handling and how deterioration in a resident was picked up. With a home rated Requires Improvement, note the date of the inspection, read what was actually found and ask the manager what has changed since, including any change of leadership. A rating describes one visit on one date and not the whole life of a home.
Testing a Home in Person
Arrange one visit and then call back unannounced in the late afternoon, when staffing is thinnest and the atmosphere is most honest. Watch whether residents are occupied, whether call bells are answered without fuss and whether staff address people by name. Ask how many registered nurses are on duty overnight, how much agency cover a typical month involves, and who a relative speaks to at the weekend. Ask too what the home would do if nursing needs increased further, since nobody wants to arrange a second move a year later.
Frequently asked questions about nursing homes in Grantham
Will Lincolnshire County Council pay towards a nursing home place?
It may, depending on the assessed need and on a separate financial assessment. Lincolnshire County Council applies the national capital thresholds and then decides whether to fund the placement, to contribute or to leave fees with the family. Where a registered nursing need is confirmed, a health contribution towards the nursing element of the fee goes to the home regardless of means. If the chosen home charges more than the council will pay, relatives are usually asked for a third party top up.
How do we arrange a care needs assessment in the Grantham area?
Ask Lincolnshire County Council for a care needs assessment, which anyone can request for themselves or for a relative. A social care worker will go through daily tasks, mobility, medicines and safety, and a relative providing regular help can request a carer's assessment of their own. Where nursing care is in prospect, a health assessment normally follows to confirm the nursing element. Both assessments are free and their written outcomes underpin any funded support.
How early should we begin looking at nursing homes?
Begin as soon as nursing care seems likely, since suitable vacancies across three postcode districts are limited and the homes with the strongest reports fill fastest. Early enquiries leave time to read the reports properly, visit more than once and complete the assessments calmly. Where a hospital discharge is setting the pace, ask the ward team for current vacancies but keep your own shortlist in play. Rushed placements are the ones families most often look to change within the year.
Which nursing homes serve the Grantham area?
Five registered nursing homes fall within the postcode districts covered here: Harrowby Lodge Nursing Home, Red Court Care Community, Royal Windsor Care Home, Newton House and Richard House Care Home. Each is registered for nursing care, so a qualified nurse is on duty rather than personal care staff alone. Harrowby Lodge Nursing Home, Royal Windsor Care Home and Newton House hold Good ratings from the Care Quality Commission, while Red Court Care Community and Richard House Care Home are rated Requires Improvement. The profiles here link to each inspection report.
What should we ask when we visit one of these homes?
Ask how many registered nurses are on duty by day and by night, and how the home manages sickness and holidays without heavy agency use. Where a home has been rated below Good, ask what inspectors found, what has changed since and who is checking that progress. Request the fee schedule in writing and ask what sits outside it, such as chiropody, hairdressing or escorted appointments. Try to be present at a mealtime, because mealtimes tell you quickly how a home really runs.
What is the difference between a care home and a nursing home?
A residential care home provides a room, meals and personal care from staff on site at any hour, but employs no registered nurse. A nursing home has qualified nurses on duty, which allows it to manage wounds, catheters, feeding tubes, insulin and conditions that change quickly. Every provider listed on this page is registered for nursing care. Where the need is mainly for company and help with daily tasks, a residential home usually fits better and costs less.
