About Hays House Nursing Home

Hays House is a nursing home in Shaftesbury, Wiltshire. Being registered for nursing care means we can look after people whose health needs are more complex than a residential home can safely meet, with qualified nurses working alongside our care staff rather than visiting from outside. Our residents are mainly older adults with ongoing medical conditions who also need help with the everyday business of washing, dressing, eating and moving about. We look after medication, nutrition, skin care, pain and comfort, and we keep in close contact with GPs and community health teams so that nobody falls through a gap between services. Dementia care is a substantial part of our work, and what makes it go well is unglamorous: familiar staff, a recognisable routine and time taken to understand what reassures a particular person. We also care for residents with physical disabilities, adapting how we help with moving and handling so that independence and dignity are preserved, and for younger adults with nursing needs, whose days are planned around their own interests. Respite stays are available for families needing a break or extra support after a hospital stay. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we would much rather you visited and formed your own view than relied on ours.
