About Haviland House
Haviland House provides nursing care in Worthing for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with mental health needs. We also take planned respite stays. Qualified nurses are here throughout the day and night. That means conditions can be managed as they change rather than dealt with as emergencies, medicines are properly reviewed, and people who would otherwise move back and forth to hospital can usually be cared for here by staff who already know them well. For people nearing the end of life, it means comfort and familiar faces. Dementia care is a large part of what we do and it asks for particular care. Familiarity does most of the work, so we keep the shape of the day recognisable and send the same faces wherever we can. We work at the person's pace, we use what somebody can still do rather than dwelling on what they cannot, and we pay close attention to the signs that tell us somebody is uncomfortable or in pain when they can no longer say so directly. A calm unhurried approach prevents far more distress than it ever costs in time. Respite stays give family carers a genuine break and support people who need nursing care for a period before going home. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and families what they think, and we act on it.
