About Cavell House
Cavell House is a nursing home in Shoreham by Sea. We care for adults who need registered nursing available at any time of day or night, including older people with complex health needs, people living with dementia, people whose mental health needs care alongside their physical health, people with a physical disability, and people with sight or hearing loss. Younger adults are part of our community too, and we take respite admissions for planned breaks and for recovery after illness. The nursing side of the work is steady rather than dramatic. Pain, skin, nutrition, mobility and medication attended to properly and reviewed, and honest working relationships with GPs, district nurses, mental health colleagues and hospital teams so that nobody falls into the gap between them. Where somebody's health is changing we would rather have the difficult conversation early, with the person and their family, than leave it until choices have narrowed. This is also simply where people live. We ask families to tell us about the person before the illness, the work, the marriages, the music, the animals and the routines they will not give up, and we build the day around what we learn. Meals are unhurried, and people choose their own company or their own quiet. Relatives are welcome at the times that suit them rather than set hours.
