About Ashton House
Ashton House is a nursing home in Haywards Heath. We care for older people and younger adults with nursing needs, including people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. Qualified nurses are on duty at all hours, which means complex health needs, medication, wound and continence care and care at the end of life are managed here rather than requiring somebody to move again. It also means that when a resident begins to become unwell, the people who notice are the ones who know them. Much of our work involves people whose needs do not fit neatly into one category, and that has taught us to be careful about assumptions. Somebody with a learning disability who is unwell is too often assumed to be simply having a bad day, and somebody with a mental health condition is too often not asked properly about physical symptoms. We try hard not to make either mistake. Residents choose how their rooms look and how their days run. Where somebody communicates through signing, pictures, objects or their own familiar gestures, our staff learn their way of doing it. For autistic residents we keep routines stable and give notice of change in advance. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see us and talk to the people living here.
