About Douglas House

Douglas House is a nursing home in Brixham. We care for older people and younger adults with nursing needs, including people living with dementia, people with learning disabilities, autistic people, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available. We should be plain about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We accepted the findings, we have been working through them, and we would rather raise it ourselves and answer your questions than have you come across it later. Having qualified nurses on duty at all hours means we can manage complex health needs, medication, wound and continence care and care at the end of life without somebody having to move on again. It also means changes in a resident's health are noticed by people who know them well. Residents have their own rooms and their own routines. Where somebody communicates through signs, pictures or their own familiar gestures, our staff learn their way rather than expecting the reverse. For people living with dementia we keep the day steady and unhurried. Brixham and the water are part of why many of our residents are here, and we get people out when the weather and their health allow. Please visit, ask us difficult questions, and speak to residents and relatives while you are here.
