About Portland House Nursing Home
Portland House is a nursing home in Shrewsbury. With registered nurses on site we support people whose needs are genuinely complex, and we take on referrals that some settings would turn away. We care for older people needing nursing support and for people living with dementia, and we also support adults with a learning disability or autism and adults living with a physical disability, including younger adults. Some of the people we support are living with an eating disorder, and that work is done carefully and in partnership with specialist health teams. Mealtimes are handled without drama or confrontation, plans are agreed with the person wherever possible, and progress is measured honestly rather than optimistically. Across all of this, our approach is the same. We find out how someone communicates, what they find difficult and what helps, and we build the support around that rather than around a standard model. Clinical care is delivered properly, but a day here should still contain conversation, choice and something worth getting up for. Respite stays are available, including planned breaks for family carers. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you are looking for nursing care in Shropshire, particularly for someone whose needs are hard to place, please talk to us. We would rather have an honest conversation about whether we are the right fit than take someone on and get it wrong.
