About Portway House Care Home
Portway House is a nursing home in Oldbury, Sandwell. Being registered for nursing care means we can look after people whose health needs are more complex than a residential home can safely meet, with qualified nurses working alongside our care team throughout. Most of our residents are older adults who need clinical attention as well as help with the everyday business of washing, dressing, eating and moving about. We manage medication, nutrition, skin care, pain and comfort, and we keep in close contact with GPs and community health teams so that care is properly joined up. Dementia care is a substantial part of our work, and it depends on familiar staff, a settled routine and taking the time to learn what reassures each person. We also care for residents with physical disabilities, adapting how we assist with moving about so that dignity is not the price of safety, and for younger adults with nursing needs, whose days are planned around their own interests. Respite stays are available for families needing a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather put that in front of you ourselves. The areas identified are where our effort is concentrated, and we are glad to discuss them with any family considering the home.
