About The Byars Nursing Home
We are a nursing home near Nottingham, caring for older people whose needs require qualified nursing alongside help with daily living, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Having registered nurses on duty means medication, pain, wounds, continence and the difficulties people have with eating, drinking and moving can be managed properly and without waiting, and that a change in somebody's health is noticed early rather than late. That often makes the difference between a person staying settled here and being sent into hospital. Necessary as the clinical work is, it is not the whole of a life. People here still choose when they get up, what they wear, what they would like to eat and who they want beside them. For people living with dementia, patience and familiarity settle somebody far better than any procedure, so we spend time learning about a person's history, work, music and habits and the things that comfort or unsettle them. We work closely with general practitioners, community teams, therapists and hospital staff and keep families properly informed. Respite stays are available as well. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We are pleased with that and conscious that a rating describes a moment. What keeps it true is the daily work and listening when somebody tells us something is wrong.
