About De Baliol
De Baliol is a nursing home at Newbiggin By The Sea in Northumberland. We support older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing care, including many living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. We also offer respite stays. Having nursing staff here means we can look after people whose health is genuinely complicated without sending them elsewhere when things change. Being at the coast is genuinely useful. Getting outside, when the Northumberland weather allows, or simply sitting somewhere with a view and some fresh air, does more for most people than anything we could organise indoors, and we make proper use of it. The clinical side is only part of a day and usually the smaller part. The rest is meals people want to eat, help without a long wait, privacy, company, and being spoken to as somebody with a working life and a family rather than as a diagnosis. Food preferences are taken seriously, including the ones that seem fussy. Somebody who dislikes what is on offer should be able to have something else without making a fuss about it. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Visit twice if you can, and at different times of day.
