About Charlotte Straker House
Charlotte Straker House is a nursing home in Corbridge. We care for older people who need qualified nursing alongside help with daily life, including residents living with dementia and people whose sight or hearing is impaired. We also care for some younger adults with complex health needs. Nurses on duty around the clock let us manage wound and pressure care, continence and catheter needs, diabetes, pain relief and end of life care, working with GPs and district nursing teams. It also means somebody whose health declines can usually remain here, among familiar faces and their own belongings, rather than being moved at the hardest possible moment. Dementia nursing asks for patience above everything. We keep surroundings calm and the rhythm of the day predictable and we give people the time they need to find their words. Where sight or hearing is impaired we keep belongings exactly where they are expected, approach people so as not to startle them and check that we have been understood. Respite stays are available, including nursing support after a hospital discharge. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families across Northumberland are welcome to visit.
