About The Willows
The Willows is a nursing home at Bedlington in Northumberland, and we provide nursing care for people living with dementia and for people with physical disabilities whose health needs call for qualified nursing. Respite stays are available as well. Registered nurses are on duty here at all hours. Medication is managed closely, wound care, catheter care and long standing conditions are dealt with on site, and a change in a resident's health tends to be noticed early because the person noticing knows them well. We work with GPs, district nurses, therapists and hospital teams, and we press on a resident's behalf when something is slow in coming. Dementia care here is treated as caring for a person with a history rather than managing a condition. Somebody who is frightened, in pain or simply overwhelmed and cannot explain it will show us in other ways, and reading that correctly depends on knowing them. So we ask families about working lives, music, food and old habits, and we use that knowledge daily rather than filing it away. For residents with physical disabilities the emphasis is on equipment that fits, transfers handled safely and without indignity, and as much independence as somebody wants to keep. The day here is kept calm and unhurried. Nobody is moved along to suit a schedule. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour. Ring us if you would like to look round.
