About The Paddocks Care Home
We are The Paddocks Care Home, a nursing home in Swaffham, Norfolk. We care for older people and younger adults needing nursing support, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we take respite stays as well as permanent residents. Having qualified nurses on site at every hour is the practical difference between us and a residential home. Changes in a resident's health are picked up by staff who already know them, a move elsewhere is rarely necessary when a condition shifts, and care at the end of life can be given here, among familiar people, when that is what somebody and their family want. Where dementia and a sensory impairment occur together, which happens often, we check the simple explanation before the complicated one. A hearing aid that has stopped working accounts for a great deal that would otherwise be recorded as confusion, and a room somebody cannot make sense of will unsettle anyone. For residents with a physical disability the practical details matter most. Enough time that a transfer is unhurried, equipment set up as it should be, and asking the person how they prefer it managed rather than assuming we know better. The rest is ordinary life, which we work at protecting. People keep their own routines and belongings, choose how they spend the day, and see visitors without arranging it first.
