About Alexander Care Centre
Alexander Care Centre is a nursing home in Lewisham, south London. We care for older people whose health needs require qualified nursing support, including residents living with dementia and residents with physical disabilities. Because nursing staff are on duty at every hour, a great deal can be managed here that would otherwise mean a move or a hospital admission. Medication, wounds, long term conditions and spells of illness are looked after on site by people who already know the resident, which matters more than it might sound: continuity is often the difference between an unsettling episode and a manageable one. We also care for residents at the end of life, working with the community and specialist teams involved. We take just as much trouble over the parts of the day that are not clinical. A resident who needs considerable physical help still wants somewhere pleasant to sit, food they actually like, fresh air, and visitors at an hour that suits them. For residents whose mobility is restricted, comfort, position and skin care are part of our routine thinking, alongside how a person gets about rather than only how they are moved. Where dementia is present, familiarity does the heavy lifting. The Care Quality Commission last rated us good overall. Anyone considering the home is welcome to visit, and to ask about staffing levels, about nights, and about how we handle things when they go wrong.
