About Fonthill House
Fonthill House is a nursing home in St Albans. We provide nursing care for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability or autism, people with physical disabilities and people whose sight or hearing is impaired. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it and clear that it describes the work of the people on shift rather than anything written here. It is also not a finished job, so we keep asking the people who live here and their families what is working and what is not, and we act on what comes back. What the rating reflects, we think, is consistency. Registered nurses on duty at every hour. Medication, wounds, continence, long term conditions and end of life care managed properly and in close contact with GPs and community teams. Staff who stay, and who therefore know people well enough to notice when something is wrong before it becomes serious. Supporting people of quite different ages and needs together only works with genuinely individual planning, including real attention to how each person communicates, and that is where a great deal of our effort goes. Please visit, meet the nursing team and judge us for yourself before making any decision.
