About Broad Oak Manor Nursing Home
Broad Oak Manor Nursing Home is in Hertford, and we care for older people whose health needs go beyond residential care, and for younger adults living with conditions that require qualified nursing. Respite stays are available as well. Having registered nurses on duty at every hour is the foundation of what we do. Medication is managed carefully, wound care, catheter care and long standing conditions are dealt with on site rather than through a run of appointments elsewhere, and a change in a resident's health tends to be noticed early because the person noticing knows them well. We work closely with GPs, district nurses, therapists and hospital teams, and we press on a resident's behalf when something is slow in coming. Dementia care sits alongside the clinical side of our work and cannot really be separated from it. Somebody in pain or frightened who cannot say so will show us in other ways, and reading that properly depends on knowing the person. So we ask families about working lives, music, food and old habits, and we keep the day calm and familiar rather than busy and full of surprises. We would rather have families properly involved than politely informed. Relatives know things about a person that no assessment will ever capture, and we would sooner ask than guess. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable hour. Ring us if you would like to look round.
