About Whittington House Nursing Home
Whittington House is a nursing home in Cheltenham. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are part of what we do. Nursing on site means health needs are met by people who already know the person, which usually means problems are noticed sooner, and it means nobody has to move on because their condition has progressed. The part that takes deliberate effort is keeping the atmosphere domestic. Once a nursing home starts running to ward habits, residents stop being asked about their own day and the day loses any shape of its own. So we guard mealtimes, fresh air, prompt help and privacy on purpose. Where a resident communicates differently, whether through sight, hearing or anything else, we settle that properly at the start and everybody uses the same approach consistently. It is the thing most often left half done. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. What would tell you more than the rating is coming at a mealtime and seeing whether anybody is waiting for help to eat.
