About Blackwell Care Centre
We are Blackwell Care Centre, a nursing home in Alfreton. We care for older people and for younger adults with nursing needs, including many people living with dementia and people with a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment. Qualified nurses are on duty around the clock. That means a change in somebody's health is noticed early by staff who know them, treatment can begin without waiting for an outside visit, and families are not left worrying about the hours when nobody senior seems to be about. The nursing side is essential but it is not what the place is for. People live here, and we work at making that a life rather than a regime. Rooms are personalised, people get up and settle at night when they choose, and meals are something to look forward to. Our staff take the trouble to learn who somebody was before they needed care. For people living with dementia we work patiently and with their history in view. We do not correct or reorient. We find what works for a person on a given day and go with that, and the days are calmer as a result. Relatives are welcome whenever they want to come and we keep them properly informed. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please contact us to arrange a visit.
