About St Helens Care Home
St Helens Care Home provides nursing care in Bishop Auckland for older people and younger adults. We support people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities, and we also work with people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug misuse. Planned respite stays are available as well as longer term places. Having qualified nurses on site at all hours means health needs can be watched and managed as they change rather than dealt with as emergencies, and it means we can support people whose needs are complex enough that many settings would turn them away. Clinical care is only part of what we do. The people here are adults with preferences, friendships and plans, and a nursing home should not flatten any of that. We support people to decide how their own day goes, to keep in touch with the people who matter to them, and to take part in things beyond these walls. For residents living with dementia we keep the day familiar and the pace gentle. For people recovering from alcohol or drug misuse, consistency and an absence of judgement count for more than anything else we could offer. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and families what they think, and we act on it.
